got my work cut out for me
Damn it, this is going to be such a heavy school term.
A requirement class for the Sociology major, Soc. Research Project is basically just that - a giant term-long group research project employing methodology learned last term. I’m with three others and we’re going to be conducting a survey project around the topic of environmental concern vs. ecologically-minded practice. We’re not sure yet what our independent variable will be… either age or gender or income level. In other words, our hypothesis will sound something like, people between the ages of 25-35 exhibit the most congruency between their level of concern for the environnment and their daily practices. The project entails a lit review, naturally, we have to disburse and collect at least 300 completed surveys, develop a coding sheet, dump all of the data in SPSS, crunch the numbers, and make the data pretty. Then there’s a huge write-up (40pp or so) and a class-long presentation to the other groups. This is the doozy of the major, a class I’ve been nervous about for months. However, the topic is near and dear to my heart and it should be interesting to watch the whole thing unfold.
My Sociology of Deviancy is fairly easygoing and the professor is an irreverent riot. I start Women of Color in the U.S. Thursday night, but I just got a sneak peek at the syllabus… so much for a light Women’s Studies class. We’ll be reading about three lengthy books, and segments of the grading include a paper, class presentation, journal, and midterm exam.
Right now I feel so fuuhhcked… totally overwhelmed. I know one thing that’s hanging over me is the fact that I still maintain a 4.0, and being someone who hates to break a streak puts a lot of pressure on this term. My own stupid little trap.
