I’m back, after nearly two months. There’s a lot to tell, as expected.
The biggest personal news by far is that my mom is moving out to Portland from Fairfield, Iowa and is arriving later tonight at the airport. We’re both close and so this is very exciting. I’ve been wanting to get her out here for a while and she’s been wanting to come, but we weren’t sure how we would swing it financially (she lives on SS Disability and that is a very fixed income). I have to help her find a part time job and transition into an apartment before the end of the year. The past month has been emotionally gruelling, talking with her on the phone constantly, getting her set to move out her with her medical issues and such. The next month will be a challenge for us both, but it’ll all work out. I’ll keep you posted.
In other news, I’ve been really active at the core of Portland Peak Oil. We put on events each Wednesday night and I help put those together as well as coordinate many of the outreach activities. I’ll write a longer post later on the topic - my involvement in PPO has become like a part time job.
To be honest, right now as I sit here typing this, I’m somewhat anxious. Mom gets into Portland in four hours and she just called me from her layover at the Dallas airport to inform me that it’s been a hellish day of travel and that she accidentally left all of her pill bottles in Fairfield, including her sleep medication. So I’m sitting here wondering if all the “business” we were going to take care of out and about the rest of the week (since I have to work all next week up until Thanksgiving) is actually going to happen. If she’s going to go up to three nights without medication while someone from Fairfield overnights her medicine to her, this is not going to be a very productive week. *sigh*
So, I’m not in a chatty mood. I want to get back in the swing of blogging and offer updates, but not tonight.

Emily,
I’ve missed your voice and this blog, am glad to see you’re back.
I am thrilled that your mother will now be close by, as we get on in life our mothers seem to factor more profoundly into our consciousness. I miss having my mother nearer, but also share some of your trepidation when I think of moving her here–in the sense that there is a certain amount of responsibility.
Breath deeply and know that it’ll end up OK!
