The summer has whizzed by. Where I thought I’d be riding my bike a lot, reading, and generally taking it easy, instead I ended up becoming one the main organizers of the Portland Peak Oil group. It’s been a lot of fun and really my first experience working in a grassroots group from the inside; helping it grow. I designed and launched the web site about three weeks ago. Every Wednesday we have events at a church dining hall in SE Portland; our numbers have really surged. I’m the designated “intro person”, which has me speaking a lot to the large group each week and consequently personally meeting tons of new folk. The goal right now is to support one another going into what is probably going to be an economically and emotionally tough winter in this country.

Otherwise, I’m working part time as usual and still managing to get a lot of reading in. Strangely, I seem to be juggling about six books right now: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, Rogue Primate by John Livingston, Power Down by Richard Heinberg, Trash by Dorothy Allison, The Diamond in Your Pocket by Gangaji, and The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herer (met him at HempStalk on the 10th!). This past weekend, we saw Dead Can Dance up in Seattle (stupendous!) and stayed overnight at Bainbridge Island with friends. Tomorrow night, we see The Arcade Fire here in Portland.

I love this time of year - September may well be my favorite month and it’s gorgeous here right now. I’m sorry my blog’s been so boring the past few months. Thanks to those who still drop by.

I knew someone else with a blog would be going to see The Arcade Fire tonight. See you there. Well, you and a thousand other strangers.
    :)

OT: I noticed you just watched Eat Drink Man Woman. I love that movie. What a gem.

I’ll be interested to know how the Gangagji book is. I haven’t read any of her work, but Kirtana (who is one of my favorite contemporary singers) is a follower of hers.
