Gregory Colbert: family of animals
I find the photographs of Gregory Colbert extraordinarily moving (click on Images and Archives inside the main menu).

Orion magazine provides some background:
Ashes and Snow is an ongoing four-part project that weaves together large photographic works, a film, art installation, and a novel in letters. It is a loving exploration into the nature of animals in their natural habitat as they interact with human beings. No longer shown as merely a member of the family of man, humans are seen as a member of the family of animals.
The project attempts to lift the natural and artificial barriers between humans and other species, dissolving the distance that exists between them. Colbert believes that nature doesn’t have a style; it has a voice. He chose to collaborate with various animals in their native habitats in an effort to be true to each animal’s voice.
Thus, Ashes and Snow aims to re-awaken in us an understanding of our shared animal nature. This insight will affect the way we behave in our environment and help us find the empathy and wisdom to ineract peacufully in a world that was once one.
