unpiling
I’ve been really busy with finals (one week to go!), but stuff I want to mention here is piling up, so here goes:
First off, Dead Can Dance, which broke up about eight years ago, is touring! This is so exciting. DCD is one of those now-”defunct” artists I always lamented I never had a chance to see. And if you’ve ever seen their “Toward the Within” live performance, you know how amazing they were in concert. They’re announcing dates slowly; I just found out yesterday that they’re coming to Seattle, their only Pacific Northwest stop, for two nights in September (17th and 18th) and tickets aren’t cheap ($40-60). But I’m definitely going - probably the 17th. Seattle tickets go on sale tomorrow morning at 10am, and expect them to go very quickly.
Gangaji’s coming out with a new book in May titled The Diamond in Your Pocket, with a foreword by Eckhart Tolle. They are my two favorite spiritual “teachers”.
Bitch magazine is having their first online auction to raise money. The items are super-fun: Hand-knit scarf made by Bitch cofounder Lisa Jervis, Lunapads Starter Kit - washable menstrual pads, lots of sold-out and rare past issues of Bitch, original art by Lynda Barry, and much more.
I heard from a member of the Derrick Jensen e-mail group that Pennsylvania has removed recess from the school day for grade school children, and at local grade schools, children are now not permitted to talk at lunch. Jeremy’s been at an Oracle training in Bushkill(!), PA this week and I asked him to ask around and confirm that this was true. He got back to me, “Yikes, it does appear to be true”. This article makes it sound like many states had done away with recess and are now bringing it back. What the hell? Since when did anyone think recess was not an absoltely imperative part of a child’s schoolday?
Heather’s inspiring Int’l Women’s Day entry is a must-read (scroll down to March 8th).
Lovely quote of the day, courtesy of Caterina: “When I look I am seen, so I exist.” - D.W. Winnicott, Playing and Reality
Spam subject of the day: “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.” So much for The Wisdom of Crowds, eh?

I had a chance to see them during their… um — Spiritchaser tour ( their last album?)? It was “okay.” I was fortunate enough to see them play outside… however unfortunate in that Spiritchaser is my least fav. one. I’m guess I’m just not a big fan of the Native American sound — but consider everything BEFORE that one Excellent! Thanks for the 411.
