unwritten entries
I have all of these “back-burner” blog entries I never get around to writing because a) I don’t have a lot of free time and b) I just don’t feel like it. It’s really quite a shame; I walk around with brain full of all of these great ideas for entries that I never wind up writing. The truth is, writing it all out is often a pain in the ass. I’m much more of a talker and if you see me often in real life (for instance, at school 3x per week), then you know that what you get here on my blog is about 0.1% of what I’m up to and thinking about. Not quite sure what to do about this…I know this site would be much more interesting if I disciplined myself to write more down. I need a brain to computer text dump thingamajig.
I have back-burner entries waiting to be written about such varied topics as music I’ve been listening to the past few months, my growing alignment with anti-civ discussions, the frustration/ deliciousness/ innocence of having adult mini-crushes when you have a significant other at home, my personal (s)heroes, how much I’m enjoying my new iBook and cool apps I’ve found for it, my excitement over ecoliteracy and the unschooling movement, my plans after graduation in June, thoughts stirred from taking my Sociology of Mental Illness course, and links to share on global warming and seed issues. And much more, of course. Damn.

I have all those unwritten entries too! Especially right now when my webserver has been rendered inoperable by a broken DSL gateway.
I have to say, though, why do you make a distinction between female and male heroes? It would never have occurred to me that you only meant men if you said heroes.

I put an (s) there to claim also for females a word that is so gendered towards males. I know that the word “hero” is now used in a gender neutral way (thus negating the need for the wretched “heroine”), but I guess it bugs me still that it’s based in “he”.

Amen. It really troubles me to get my thoughts out on paper. I prefer conversation as well. There’s something intimate and permeable and exchange-ish about talking that’s just lost in the written word.
I, too, have back blog entries. But I absolutely love what you do decide to publish. You have an audience in me!
And about those mini-crushes, no harm. I totally love crushing on guys, and I’ve decided that it’s fine, so long as no harm comes to my sigoth. In fact, I think it’s quite harmless: it reminds me of how much, for the time being, I care about him.
Oh! Derrick Jensen is coming to Cincinnati next spring. My friend Kyle and I are so going on a roadtrip for that one. Excited!

i often give up on making thoughts “publishable” and just put a big THIS IS A DRAFT RANDOM BRAIN SPILL note somewhere in the post. most people will get the idea anyway, and i find that those dribbles are often the most transparent and enjoyable when reading back on them. create yourself a “totally draft” category or something to keep track of them.

As a linguist, I think your connection between ‘he’ and ‘hero’ is entirely contrived and without reason.
Just because a word starts out with a couple of letters, especially in ENGLISH, doesn’t mean that the words relate. Height, hermit, hen, Hercules, henchman… all of these start with ‘he’, as does ‘hero’, but I don’t really think that they are masculine in purpose nor identity. Don’t come off as a whack-job feminazi, because I don’t think you are.
Regarding crushes: I love to have crushes and then watch that person and play out why it would never work out. It happens all the time: smoker, materialist, mean, blonde, Republican, christian, whatever. They never end up stacking up to M.
