grumbles

I feel really melancholy today. I have cramps and a five page paper due tomorrow night I can’t seem to get started on yet. I am in a foul mood about this insane culture, and to top it all off, I get crap like this in our mailbox today.

I’m also peeved that there are not more syllabi available online at my university. In general, some department sites are better than others at Portland State, but I’m having no luck finding any syllabi outside of the Sociology department for classes this winter term. I’ve taken to e-mailing heretofore unknown professors requesting that they e-mail me a syllabus if they have it. Registration is tomorrow morning, and I’m definitely taking “Soc. Research Project” (a required class for the major) and “Foundations of Sociology” (also required), and then choosing from the Conflict Resolution dept.’s “Peace Studies” class, “Women of Color in the U.S.” for my WS minor, and a class out of Philosophy titled “Social and Political Philosophy”. I would love to take Philosophy’s “Environmental Ethics”, but alas, it doesn’t fit with my schedule.

I wish there was a PSU-specific online forum/board where students could go and discuss classes and professors. I could ask fellow students in my soc. classes their opinions on other soc. classes, but what if I’m interested in finding out the nitty-gritty on a particular philosophy class and don’t happen to personally know any philosophy majors? It would be nice to have a centralized place to go for that sort of discussion and inquiry. Rate My Professors is the only thing I’ve found that offers what I’m looking for, but it’s not quite the comprehensive tool I’m talking about here.
