sign stealing

Sometime between 6-7:30 pm, while we were watching the squirm-worthy vice presidential debate, the No on 36 sign in our yard was stolen for the second time. For those outside of Oregon, Ballot Measure 36 coming up for public vote in November seeks to amend the state consititution to ban same-sex marriage.

Politically, I’m guessing we live in a pretty evenly split neighborhood. About two weeks ago, I noticed a few Bush-Cheney and Yes on 36 signs (always together) pop up on lawns and windows within a few block radius of us. I figured it was time to post our own No sign and a Kerry-Edwards while we were at it.

Now, three No on 36 and two Kerry-Edwards signs later, I’m starting to get really peeved. The kind of immature political animal one must be to steal the opposition’s signs….geesh. As if that’ll change our vote. What the culprit(s) hasn’t thought of is that every time we have to go down to one of the headquarters and buy another $5 sign, that’s $5 more donated to the campaign’s coffers. And of course, we’re going to keep replacing them. See, Jer and I are now involved in a retarded game - you can steal the sign, but we’re just going to replace it within two days (and try to anchor it down more firmly).

Any ideas for preventing sign theft?
