Tree Wave

Rad! Geek rock lives!

Tree Wave is a band out of Dallas (a duo, really) that plays all of their songs using the following equipment: a 1977 Atari 2600 game console, a 1986 portable 286 PC, a 1983 Commodore 64 computer, and a 1985 Epson dot matrix printer. Oh, and the singer’s very human pipes. The equipment runs custom music software written by one of them designed specifically for the band. More juicy gear info here.

The bonus is that when they perform, all of the machines are outputting images onto screens, e.g. video output from the Atari is displayed on a video projector and the Commodore’s video is shown on a television. It’s telling that more of their gigs are at hip galleries, festivals and art museums than at clubs.

Their stuff is good! Check out a photo of their set-up and an mp3 of the song “May Banners”.

HA! That is most excellent! I mean, even beyond the geek aesthetic, the music is really good… kind of a Snow Pony/Air feel to it. Someone book ‘em for the 2005 Geek Prom right now!
