smoking gun
I don’t have a lot of time to write because I have some 100 pages of reading to get through before classes tomorrow, but I just had to post about the latest news. Forget what I said three weeks ago, I am now loving the Randi Rhodes show* on Air America (620 AM on the Portland dial), and thanks to listening on the way home from work today, I caught a big fat audio clip of Bob Woodward on “60 Minutes” last night.
Based on over 75 interviews with White House officials, Woodward’s new book, Plan of Attack, alleges that the Bush team secretly used $700 million of funds earmarked in 2002 for Afghanistan to prepare for an attack on Iraq… WITHOUT GOING THROUGH CONGRESS. The Constitution states that the U.S. Congress must approve any appropriations from the U.S. Treasury. Fortunately, If this isn’t finally the offense for which Bush should be impeached, I don’t know what. Anyway, there’s lots more I want to investigate (including the snippet I heard about the U.S. essentially went to war with Iraq because Dick Cheney is a “powerful steamrolling force” who developed a “fever” about removing Saddam Hussein), but I have to read three chapters of Stiglitz.
* I’m a little annoyed at her pissiness toward Nader, but that aside, she’s dynamite - the best thing on the station. She really knows her stuff. And she sounds exaactly like a former co-worker of mine, Judi… I miss you Judi!
