new weblog

I’m going to let you in on a little plan I’ve been brewing…

Every day is Earth Day, and to commemorate that, I’m going to be starting a sustainability/everyday activism weblog in the next few months. Last term, in my Leadership for Sustainability course, I became incredibly inspired by the idea that localized paradigm shifts and “small-scale” action is really where it’s at. My goal is to put together a blog that shares down-to-earth, empowering, and approachable wisdom and tips that promote conscientiousness and that make a positive difference. Sort of like a World Changing, but on the scale of our daily lives and own backyards. I don’t know of any blog out there like this.

All the time in our culture, people say they feel helpless and don’t know what they can do to feel like they’re instrumental in creating a world that more closely matches their vision, ecologically, socially and politically. The purpose of the blog would be to provide a daily check-in site that’s involving, fun, accessible, and written by everyday people who are ongoingly learning and implementing actions that make a difference in their own daily lives.

That’s right, I’d definitely like it to be a group blog so that there’s a variety of voices and so that many levels of everyday activism knowledge and experience are represented. Consequently, anyone coming to the blog would be bound to learn something new that he or she can take on. I envision a group of about 6 bloggers who each post a few times a week or more about what they are doing in their homes and communities to further their vision of an ecologically sustainable and socially just world. Obviously, comments would be open to anyone who visits the blog. The site would also feature links and resources, polls and checklists, profiles and photos, and more.

Any idea, thoughts? Also, if you’re interested in participating, let me know! Oh, and I need ideas for a domain name.

I assume you’re familiar with Starhawk’s website. The Reclaiming organization is involved in something called Earth Activist Training. I’ve been wanting to get more involved with these folks but I just haven’t been able to so far.
