smattering

It’s been difficult for me to get back in the mindset of blogging, probably because I’m still so behind on news and events and such. Here’s a smattering of what’s on my mind lately:

  • There’s a conference coming up next weekend here in Portland I’m thinking about attending. It’s put on by an organization called STARC (Students Transforming and Resisting Corporations) and the weekend-long conference is only $35. The panels look interesting enough.
  • I’ve been reading Ishmael by Daniel Quinn for the first time (yes, finally). I see the book as a great introduction to opening one’s eyes to the destructive nature of civilization and how to engage in an alternative way of living. It’s tremendously thought-provoking and so practical, it’s spiritually necessary, if that makes sense. Highly recommended reading for sure.
  • I saw “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” after reading rave blogger reviews. It was creative, entertaining and well-acted, but didn’t quite pack the emotional and romantic wallop I wanted it to. Just didn’t resonate with me on any kind of deeper level, I guess.
  • Siouxsie’s tour (for which I already bought Seattle tickets) has been postponed; it’s now set to start in September. *hrmph*
  • I will post Fairfield pics up sometime in the next week.
  • Damn it, I still have to do my taxes.

I will be curious to know your impression of “Ishmael” when you are done. After massive begging by my Grandma who thinks that book must be made into the cornerstone of society, I finally read it a couple of months ago. I don’t want to ruin your experience if you’re really enjoying it, but I have a few comments in review if you’re interested.
