new setlist: Side by Side

Because I love my visitors (and because I have the server space for it), I just posted an extra-specially big Strangechord Setlist for you this time around. It’s called “Side by Side” and it’s comprised of 32 mp3s, free for the taking! It took me a while to put together tonight, but I wanted to make sure I got it done before I plunge full on into winter classwork.

These 16 pairs of songs are originals and their covers, side by side. Because I scowl upon remakes that sound almost identical to the original, I chose covers that were notably different from their originals, where both songs are worth a listen. There’s Ani DiFranco covering Prince, Ozzy Osbourne covering The Bee Gees (!), Siouxsie & the Banshees covering Kraftwerk, Cocteau Twins covering Billie Holiday, and more! It has to be the craziest collection I’ve ever posted. Enjoy! (And don’t forget to post a comment or e-mail me suggesting future setlist themes.)

I love the whole “Side By Side” idea. I think it’s very clever. Plus the songs you chose were a nice selection. Not just modern pop, like some people do.

    Very Nice!

I’m having trouble downloading the mp3s. Every one I try says it’s an embedded object and I need an ActiveX viewer. I’ve downloaded songs from your site before, without a hitch… Is this problem on my end?

Dwight Yoakam’s done a bluegrass version of Train in Vain if you want to extend the setlist to triples.

    Thanks for setting this up.

Joan Osborne released a nice set of covers in late ‘02 called “How Sweet It Is.” Mostly Motown material, but majorly re-arranged.
