An Interesting Day
Apparently Showtime is producing a movie to air in September tracking Bush on 9/11. The movie, titled “The Big Dance,” is “written and produced by a White House insider with the close co-operation of Mr. Bush and his top officials. A copy of the script obtained by The Globe and Mail reveals a prime-time drama starring a nearly infallible, heroic president with little or no dissension in his ranks and a penchant for delivering articulate, stirring, off-the-cuff addresses to colleagues.”
As if script excerpts such as “Trapped on the other side of the country aboard Air Force One, the President has lost his cool: ‘If some tinhorn terrorist wants me, tell him to come and get me! I’ll be at home! Waiting for the bastard!’” aren’t cringe-worthy enough, there’s ample evidence suggesting the film’s entire premise is grounded in falsehoods. I came across this compelling chronicle of Bush’s response on 9/11: An Interesting Day: President Bush’s Movements and Actions on 9/11. After reading that, it’s really hard to swallow the cowboy image of Bush this movie is trying to push.
In case you’re thinking this is being too nitpicky or just another case of a liberal attacking Bush, think about this: the idea of a movie coming out that depicts the President in a warm, fuzzy halo glow when quite the opposite is likely the case is indeed troubling. That Showtime is producing a movie written by a White House insider and featuring heroic histrionics is an objectionable form of propaganda, if you ask me. As if Americans aren’t duped enough…geeeesh.
