This is absolutely disgusting. Obviously, I’m not asserting that honoring the sanctity of human life is disgusting, but Bush of all people declaring a National Sanctity of Human Life Day makes my stomach turn. This is a thinly veiled attempt to impose his privileged, right wing Christian ideology on that which is NOT HIS BUSINESS - namely, a woman’s choice to bear a child or not. This isn’t being pro-abortion, folks, it’s being pro-freedom and democracy and choice. This issue is not any government’s mandate!
Another point is that it seems to me those who are the most rabidly pro-life also appear to be the ones who have the littlest compassion or care for the lower class in this country. I thought Meg put it well:
A more appropriate name would be “Sanctity of the fetus but once you’re born you better damn well have connections and money or you’ll be shit out of luck because we don’t really give a damn about educational funding or true welfare reform or universal health care or making sure you’re actually taken care of and not left to die on the streets Day.”…Perhaps most appropriate: “Sanctity of Human Life (except Iraqis) Day.”
I mean, what warmongering, self-righteous hypocrites we have in Washington right now.
